The events of the End of The World happens while the narrator is alive and possibly after death, and he succumbs to the world that the scientist sort of created in his mind.ġb. If the narrator had chosen to escape with his shadow, what happens to that stream of consciousness created by himself? Does he go back to normal life, marry the librarian, and the End of the World gets destroyed?Īll of this is my interpretation and conjecture.ġa.What happens to his shadow after it escaped the Pool? I thought shadows cannot last very long without their owners? Where does he go? Wouldn't the narrator be incomplete without his shadow, given he chose to stay? Or can we assume that he gets killed in the whirlpool?.What happens after his physical body dies? Does the End of the World continue to exist even after physical death? Does the perception of time slow down so much that it can be perceived as infinite? What happens after the narrator 'dies'? The whole bit about immortality was also a bit confusing to me.The End of the World is created by the narrator, but are the events in his head occurring at the same time as the events in Hard Boiled Wonderland? Are the two streams of consciousness parallel to each other, or do they occur at different paces? Does the Librarian represent the librarian he sleeps with in the real world? What about the other characters, such as the Colonel and the Gatekeeper?
